Restoration work on Augean site

Safety clothing will be provided.
Parts of the landfill site near KIngs Cliffe have been filled and restoration work is well under way with ponds, tree planting and grassland. A great opportunity to view this work guided by Augean's ecologist.

Identifying woodland flowers

This workshop, led by Matt Johnson, will focus on the woodland flowers that bloom early in the year. The skills learnt will be generally applicable and there will be plenty of the flowering season left for practising after the workshop.

The snail-killing flies (family Sciomyzidae) parasitise snails or slugs. In this workshop you will find that most species are fairly straightforward to identify using a key. No prior knowledge of fly identification will be assumed.

Simon James from the Smallwoods Association will be leading a hands-on demonstration burn of the Exeter Charcoal Retort. Places limited.
Tues am: Loading the retort and lighting the heat up wood. pm. Retort getting up to temperature and likely to be gassing by 2pm.
Weds am: Open retort & remove charcoal.
